Fine Art Pencil Drawings by Fahimeh Meidani
Fine Art Pencil Drawings by Fahimeh Meidani
Fahimeh Meidani was born in southern Iran. She had a passion for drawing in her early childhood and, over time, developed much appreciation for art. Some of her skills were self taught during her youth, before she attended any formal art classes.
Over the years her love for art and talent bloomed, and she finally left Iran just prior to the Iranian Revolution to study. Fahimeh attended Wolverhampton University in England, and in 1981 received an honors B.A. in Fine Arts, majoring in Ceramics. Upon graduating, she was offered a place at the Royal Academy of Art, which she turned down to move to Malawi.
Fahimeh spent eighteen years living in Malawi, Niger and Kenya. Her experiences in Africa and the relationships she built inspired much of her work during this period. Her endeavor to depict the beauty of these proud nomadic tribes and the aim of preserving their vanishing culture speaks of her love for and dedication to the principle of the oneness of humanity.
Her series of pencil portraits of the Tuareg, Wodaabe, Masaai and Samburu peoples have been on exhibition in South Africa, Kenya and the United States.
While living in Kenya, Fahimeh illustrated numerous children’s books. She also does intricate bead-work using materials she acquires from her travels around the world. She is often commissioned for portraits.
Currently Fahimeh lives in Fairfax, VA where she teaches art and continues to work as a freelance artist.
