City of Aberdeen - Services
Aberdeen's Recycling and Trash Collection Programs have been forerunner's in the State of Maryland for a few years. In 1993, the City embarked on the Volume Based "Sticker" Trash Removal Program, which is the first in the State. In 1994, the City received the "Award of Excellence" from the Maryland Municipal League for the Sticker Program that has led to very high recycling rates as well as a fair way to distribute the charges for the Harford County imposed trash tipping (dumping) fee. In 1995, the City's Program was 1 of 3 featured at an EPA Conference about "Pay As You Throw" systems, held in Washington, D.C. Our Recycling Coordinator was a panelist at the session and saw many eager participants seeking information on volume based programs which are becoming a National trend. For additional information, please e-mail: jlitke@aberdeen-md.org.
